Matilda told such Dreadful Lies,
It made one Gasp and Stretch one’s Eyes;
Her Aunt, who, from her Earliest Youth,
Had kept a Strict Regard for Truth,
Attempted to Believe Matilda:
The effort very nearly killed her,
And would have done so, had not She
Discovered this Infirmity.

I chose to carry around the poem, EPISTLE TO DAVIE because i liked the ‘davie’ part in the name. It sounded awesome. I carry it in my hand today as i don’t have any pockets in my leggings or my jumper.

January
While winds frae aff Ben-Lomond blaw,
An’ bar the doors wi’ driving snaw,
An’ hing us owre the ingle,
I set me down to pass the time,
An’ spin a verse or twa o’ rhyme,
In hamely, westlin jingle.
While frosty winds blaw in the drift,
Ben to the chimla lug,
I grudge a wee the great-folk’s gift,
That live sae bien an’ snug:
I tent less, and want less
Their roomy fire-side;
But hanker, and canker,
To see their cursed pride.

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose,

O my Luve’s like the melodie,
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’life shall run.And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
And fare-thee-weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ ’twere ten thousand mile!

Children at Bruntsfield Community Nursery are lucky their wonderful teachers read them poems regularly.
They love the idea of carrying one of their very own, so set to work writing a poem to carry all about their ‘Mummy.’
Mummy is like….
A sofa to lie on to have a rest,
Soft and bouncy
Bedtime, reading stories and lullabies,
An orange, like the moon, juicy and sweet
Summertime, sunny and warm,
A rabbit, soft and cuddly
By Sarah, Ivy, Rachel, Amber, Quinn, Rose and Riley at Bruntsfield Community Nursery.
