Edinburgh’s 2010 citywide reading campaign was all about POETRY!

Campaign Overview

We wanted the whole of Edinburgh to enjoy poetry together, and to tell us how they carry poems with them. We sent every Edinburgh school free Carry a Poem books and poem posters as inspiration, and pupils sent in their stories – about whole poems, a verse, a haiku or even just a line.

Free Materials for Schools

We sent every school in Edinburgh free books, leaflets, poetry pocketcards and poem posters. Local poet Diana Hendry created a special poem just for the campaign. Books were sent out in January 2010, via the Children & Families Department at MacDonald Road.

Schools Blog

Schools have sent us they poems they carry, and news of the events they took part in. You can also get a glimpse behind the scenes of the preparations to send the books to schools on the schools blog.
